WILMORE, Ky., June 10, 2024 鈥 海角社区 announces four new scholarship funds named after distinguished faculty or faculty emeriti: the Dr. David R. Bauer Endowed Scholarship Fund, the Dr. Anthony J. Headley and Dr. Virginia T. Holeman Endowed Scholarship Fund, the Dr. George G. Hunter, III Endowed Scholarship Fund, and the Dr. Christine D. Pohl Endowed Scholarship Fund. Each scholarship will be awarded to students coming to Asbury Seminary to study in the fields represented by each of the faculty.

Dr. David R. Bauer Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Dr. David R. Bauer Endowed Scholarship Fund will be awarded to candidates enrolled in the School of Biblical Interpretation at 海角社区 pursuing a degree with a concentration in Biblical Studies or Inductive Biblical Studies. Bauer joined the faculty at 海角社区 in 1984 and currently serves in many roles, including Dean of the School of Biblical Interpretation and the Ralph Waldo Beeson Professor of Inductive Bible Studies. He has also been the recipient of many distinguished awards from various institutions.

Dr. Anthony J. Headley and Dr. Virginia T. Holeman Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Dr. Anthony J. Headley and Dr. Virginia T. Holeman Endowed Scholarship Fund will be awarded to candidates enrolled in the School of Counseling at Asbury Seminary.聽 Dr. Headley and Dr. Holeman are two beloved faculty members from the School of Counseling. Dr. Headley came to Asbury Seminary in the 1990s to teach in the areas of mental health counseling, marriage and family counseling, and pastoral counseling. Dr. Holeman came to Asbury Seminary in 1995 after working in churches and clinics as a licensed counselor. She served as chair of the Counseling and Pastoral Care Department.

Dr. George G. Hunter, III Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Dr. George G. Hunter, III Endowed Scholarship Fund will be awarded to candidates enrolled in the E. Stanley Jones School of Mission and Ministry at Asbury Seminary pursuing a degree with a concentration in missions. Dr. Hunter was a United Methodist pastor and served as the first Dean of the E. Stanley Jones School of World Mission and Evangelism at Asbury Seminary beginning in 1983.

Dr. Christine D. Pohl Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Dr. Christine D. Pohl Endowed Scholarship Fund will be awarded to candidates enrolled in the School of Theology and Formation pursuing a degree with a concentration in ethics. Dr. Pohl taught in the area of Christian social ethics and wrote works on hospitality and community as a Christian practice. Dr. Pohl was a professor emerita of Christian Ethics at Asbury Seminary, teaching from 1989 until her retirement in 2018.

Each of these scholarship funds has received an initial gift of $1 million to become established.
